Dance Photography ProDance Project 6
You would never believe the amount of work that goes into planning and preparing for a full on professional dance recital unless you stop in days before recital weekend to catch a small glimpse of the women behind ProDance. There is choreographing recital routines, sizing + ordering of costumes, splicing music to 2 minute frames, scheduling rehearsal times, designing + ordering programs, buying concession items, designing PD dance wear, ticket sales, writing announcements for shows, deciding the order of routine and three shows, hiring a photographer + videographer, moving the dance floor to the performing arts stage from the studio, designing of recital lighting, lighting queues, music queues and sound checks, and when its finally right- more queues and tests. There is an exceptional amount of moving parts when putting on this kind of production, most of which you never see – and the final result is an amazing production and you couldn’t be more proud in that moment when you see your child dancing their heart out on stage… like the star they are!
Behind the scenes there dancers everywhere and I am all over the place documenting this event and the journey getting here through my dance photography. Boys and girls in dressing rooms and the gymnasium waiting patiently and rehearsing. They are giggling, talking with friends, and playing all while acting like little professionals once they hit the stage. It is extraordinary to witness the behind the scenes and to document the memories of your children. I have grown to LOVE dance photography and I have your children to thank for that. Dance portraits do not have to be traditional- stand and pose, they can be fun and creative. Any opportunity to take the art of dance and apply it to my artistry is one I am always willing to seize. The amount of strength these children and young adults have, being able to perform the way they do is astounding. I have been with ProDance since the day they opened for business and over the past 6 years I have come to know these dancers well. They are talented, they are beautiful, and most importantly they are kind and well mannered. You should be extremely proud! Xx Aleia
